Pumps push liquids and gases by mechanical action, and are used by many businesses and individuals for various requirements. Pumps are of three main types – gravity pumps, displacement pumps and direct lift pumps. Within these 3 group falls sub-groups based on specific functions; water, trash, vacuum, sump and hydraulic being a few of them.
When buying pumps, it is important to ascertain what kind of pump is needed and for what purpose. Also significant is maintenance of the pump and its lifecycle which also decides what needs to be bought.
- WATER PUMPS
Water pumps, pump water. Water can be drawn from a well or a tank, and pumps are generally used in a vehicle or business or a commercial space.
There are 3 main sub-types of water pumps;
- Well water pump – These pump sets draw water from wells, for use in a home or business. The water needs of bathrooms, restrooms and sinks in the premises have to be covered.
- Pressure tank water pump – Pressure water pumps regulate the fluctuations of water pressure, controlling the flow of water to different parts of the premises
- Vehicle water pump – These pump sets regulate flow of water through a vehicle’s cooling system.
2. SEWAGE PUMPS
Sewage pumps mainly pump waste water. They are placed in basements to pump bathroom waste to higher locations for disposal.
There are 3 main sub-types of sewage pumps;
- Sanitary Pump – These are used in food processors, breweries, restaurants to help in food processing that requires proper sanitation
- Syringe Pump – These pumps remove trash automatically at times intervals
- Positive displacement pumps – Liquids are moved through these pumps by mechanical force. Gears, pistons and diaphragms are used and power mostly sourced from solar panels and hydraulics.
3. SUMP PUMPS
Sump pumps remove collected water and are commonly used in basements and other low lying areas where flooding is common.
There are 3 main sub-types of sump pumps;
- Pedestal Sump Pump – Motor mounted above the sump is more conspicuous and allows better servicing
- Submersible Sump Pump – Placed within the sump, it is sealed and hidden
Proper pump maintenance ensures the longevity of it while saving money and time. A good pump lasts for a long time, is repaired in a timely manner and runs to its full efficacy at all times.
